Susan Greenfield

SUSAN GREENFIELD

Susan Greenfield is Professor of Pharmacology at Oxford University and a neuroscientist, writer, and broadcaster. She has been awarded 30 Honorary Degrees from British and foreign universities and heads a multi-disciplinary research group exploring novel brain mechanisms linked to neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. In addition, she has published a neuroscientific theory of consciousness (The Private Life of the Brain 2003) and developed an interest in the impact of 21st Century technologies on how young people think and feel, as discussed in her book ID: The Quest for Identity in the 21st Century (2008).

In 1998 she received the Michael Faraday Medal from the Royal Society, was awarded a CBE in the Millennium New Year’s Honours List, and granted a non-political Life Peerage in 2001. In 2000 she was elected to an Honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and in 2007 to an Honorary Fellowship of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. She was appointed Chancellor of Heriot Watt University in 2005. Further recognition of her work includes L’Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur from the French Government, and the American Academy of Achievement Golden Plate Award, both received in 2003, as well as the Australian Medical Research Society Medal, which she awarded in 2010. Earlier this year (2011) she joined the Advisory Board of the Kusuma School of Biological Sciences at the Indian Institute for Technology, Delhi.

Marilyn Campbell

DOÇ.DR. MARILYN CAMPBELL

Dr Marilyn Campbell is currently an associate professor at the Queensland University of Technology preparing psychologists and school counsellors in the Masters of Education program. Previous to this Marilyn supervised school counsellors and has worked in infants, primary and secondary schools as a teacher, teacher-librarian and school counsellor. Her main clinical and research interests are the prevention and intervention of anxiety disorders in young people and the effects of bullying, especially cyberbullying in schools. She is the author of the Worrybusters series of books for anxious children.

Professor MARK GRIFFITHS BIO
BSc, PhD, CPsychol, PGDipHE, FBPsS, FRSA

Dr. Mark Griffiths is a Chartered Psychologist and Professor of Gambling Studies at the Nottingham Trent University, and Director of the International Gaming Research Unit. He is internationally known for his work into gambling and gaming addictions and has won many awards including the American 1994 John Rosecrance Research Prize for “outstanding scholarly contributions to the field of gambling research”, the 1998 European CELEJ Prize for best paper on gambling, the 2003 Canadian International Excellence Award for “outstanding contributions to the prevention of problem gambling and the practice of responsible gambling” and a North American 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award For Contributions To The Field Of Youth Gambling “in recognition of his dedication, leadership, and pioneering contributions to the field of youth gambling”. One of his most recent award is the 2009 Research Award from the US National Council on Problem Gambling.

He has published over 300 refereed research in journals such as the British Journal of Psychology, British Journal of Social Psychology, British Journal of Clinical Psychology, British Medical Journal, Behavioral and Brain Sciences, Addiction, Addiction Research and Theory, International Journal of Mental Health and Addiction, CyberPsychology & Behavior, Journal of Community and Applied Social Psychology, Journal of Adolescence, Addictive Behaviors, Journal of Psychology and extensively in the Journal of Gambling Studies, Journal of Gambling Issues and International Gambling Studies. He has published three books, over 65 book chapters and over 1000 other articles. He has served on numerous national and international committees (e.g. BPS Council, BPS Social Psychology Section, Society for the Study of Gambling, Gamblers Anonymous General Services Board, National Council on Gambling etc.) and is a former National Chair of Gamcare. He also does a lot of freelance journalism and has appeared on over 2000 radio and television programmes since 1988.

He has been the keynote speaker at national gambling conferences in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Ireland, Finland, Poland, Italy, Holland and Belgium. He has also given keynote addresses to the US National Academy of Sciences (Washington DC), and the US National Center for Addiction (New York). He has also acted as a consultant for many Government bodies including the Gambling Board for Great Britain, Gambling Commission, UK Home Office, Department of Culture, Media and Sport, Department of Health, Victorian Casino and Gaming Authority (Australia) and various international Governments (including the US, Australia, Sweden, Norway and Finland). In 2004 he was awarded the Joseph Lister Prize for Social Sciences by the British Association for the Advancement of Science for being one of the UK’s “outstanding scientific communicators”. Other awards include the 2006 Excellence in the Teaching of Psychology Award by the British Psychological Society and the British Psychological Society Fellowship Award for “exceptional contributions to psychology”.

Chien Chou

PROF.DR. CHIEN CHOU

Dr. Chien Chou received her Ph.D. in Instructional Design and Technology from The Ohio State University in 1990. She is currently a chair professor at Graduate Institute of Education/Center for Teacher Education, National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan. She can be reached via cchou@mail.nctu.edu.tw.

Dr. Chou received three Outstanding Research Awards from National Science Council in Taiwan. Her research interests include information literacy and ethics, e-learning and learning technology. Her work has been published in Computers & Education, Computers in Human Behavior, The Internet and Higher Education, Cyberpsychology & Behavior, British Journal of Educational Technology, Educational Psychology Review, and so on.

Dai-Jin Kim

PROF.DR. DAI-JIN KIM

Dai-Jin Kim is Professor of Department of Psychiatry, Catholic Medical University of Korea College of Medicine. He heads Addiction Research Institute of the Seoul St. Mary's hospital exploring the novel mechanisms linked to addiction of alcohol, internet and gambling. He has also been charged with the project of classification of Internet addiction according to ‘The Behavior Pattern of Internet Use, Psychiatric Comorbidity and Optimization of Treatment for Internet Addiction’ from Mar. 2009 to Feb. 2010. In addition, he has finished MUSC (South Carolina Medical University) Center for alcohol and drug program in order to gain more insights into addiction for further investigations and new therapies of addiction, and published more than 60 articles which represent important findings in addiction (e.g. Preliminary study of Internet addiction and cognitive function in adolescents based on IQ tests, 2011).

Moreover, he has honored with respectable awards which recognize outstanding achievement in clinical and experimental studies of the addiction over the past few years. In 2001 and 2002, he was awarded the best professor awards from Catholic medical university twice, and also won the young researcher award of Korean addiction psychiatry association for two years in succession in 2005 and 2006, and the Ministry of health and welfare award in 2007.

David Greenfield

DR. DAVID GREENFIELD

Dr. David Greenfield is founder of The Center for Internet and Technology Addiction (virtual-addiction.com.) and is Director of the Healing Center, LLC. Dr. Greenfield’s research, writing, and clinical work on Internet and Technology Addiction and Behavior has appeared on CNN, ABC News, CBS Early Show, Fox News, NBC News, Good Morning America, and the Today Show. His work has also been featured in U.S. News and World Report, Business Week, Newsweek, People, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Time, and Forbes, and many other popular publications. He is recognized as one of the world’s leading authorities on Internet and Computer behavior, and digital media technology, including it’s’ use and abuse. Dr. Greenfield recent work is focused on how we as a society and use technology in a more balanced and healthy manner and why these technologies are so addictive. Dr. Greenfield is the author of “Virtual Addiction” as well as several professional articles and book chapters on Internet and Computer Addiction and the impact of this technology on human behavior. Dr. Greenfield is a fellow and past-president of the Connecticut Psychological Association, and is Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He maintains his home and clinical practice in Connecticut and conducts research, training, consultation, and lectures throughout the world on the Internet and Digital Media Technology.
